Two? Really?

I can't believe it has been two years already!  My little boy turned 2 in January and I am still having a hard time accepting it.  And since I have been slacking with my blog I am just now blogging about it.

Is seams like we were just bringing him home for the first time...

And somehow him and Gage have went from this...
...to this!

Man, I love this kid!  Mason, Dallan & I were in Utah on Mason's birthday so we did a little party with Gage.  It was region wrestling in Richfield so we met my parents over there and went bowling.  It was a blast!  Bowling is one of the few activities that can keep both the kids and the adults fully entertained.

We topped off the bowling with some pizza then headed back to Grandma & Grandpa's house for cake and presents.  Mason was well practiced with what to do with presents considering Christmas was only two weeks prior.

Because Mark was in Virginia and missed the family party we did another party for Mason just a couple weeks ago where we finally gave him the birthday presents from us.  Lynne and Savannah came over and we did just a little party of brownies and presents.

Mason scored two bikes for his birthday!  Mark and I gave Mason a hotwheels bike and Lynne and Savannah gave him a little red trike to match Savannah's so they could ride together.  Mason previously owned a little train thing he could ride on and considering we don't have a garage or a yard all three of these bikes (and for a two week period Savannah's bike too) are all loose in our house.  It's crazy!  The poor guy that lives in our basement!  He also scored an Elmo book that has an iPod-like thing attached to it and a little airplane and helicopter set from Dallan.

If I could I woud freeze Mason at this age.  He is so brilliant and fun!  I don't know what we ever did before he joined our family.  This next part of this post is long and just for my records...

Some things I want to remember about him right now:
-He calls Dallan "Dun-a"
-Currently his most common phrase to me during the day is "ut is it mom?" with eyebrows furrowed and head tilted.
-He loves Dora.  (Dora is NOT a girl thing.  Why is everything Dora pink?)
-When you tell him you love him he answers with a soft little "love"
-He adores Dallan and is always so good to play with him and hand him toys.
-He can count to 12 then starts saying "unteen, unteen, unteen..."
-Knows all his colors, shapes, and all his letters but occasionally says the sound the letter makes instead of what the letter is.
-He is still petrified of the vacuum but is getting considerately better at coping with it.  He usually has to touch the vacuum before I can put it away. He calls it "ma-mam" for some reason even though he can say vacuum.  He also calls a lion a "lonnie" and he can say lion too.
-He loves songs!  He sings along with us now and I am surprised at how many of the words he knows.  His current favorites are twinkle-twinkle, ABCs, I am like a star, Sunbeam, Mark's Fox song, and Popcorn popping.
-He still sleeps between 14 and 15 hours a day.
-He insists on having his coat zipped up and the hood on every time we leave the house even if it isn't very cold outside.
-He asks to stay in his jammas every morning and is so excited to put them on each night.
-Everyday when we pick up Mark from the train station Mason excitedly tells Mark he flew on a plane.  The conversation then goes on as Mark asks him how big the plane was and the two go back and forth saying different words meaning big (huge, giant, humongous, enormous, etc.)   This is everyday for over a month now.
-The way he curls his tongue when he laughs and when he says certain words like "mess"
-Is starting to imagine and incorporating multiple toys into his play at the same time.
-He likes to touch my earings and pet my hair each night before I put him in his bed.  Then kisses each of my cheeks and gives us hugs.
-How he went through a phase where he would only give us kisses if we said please.

Things I want to remember about him when he was little but I didn't ever write down:
-He would be looking you right in the eye, hide something, and look back at you and say "wua-wua-wua" to the tune of "where is it" even though you had watched the whole production and he was so proud of himself!
-The way he used to jump out from behind the chair and yell "ah-nah" (tuh-dah) over and over agian.
-He used to call his binke his "bauf".
-Bringing him into bed with us each morning while he drank his bottle.
-The way he would turn his head and look at you from the side of his eye and smile.
-Doing twang-twang to Grover's guitar and bam-bam to Oscar's hammer.
-The game him and Mark played every time Mark was trying to get him to eat baby food of eat a bite then pulling dad's hair over and over.
-Mark bringing him to the lab to eat lunch all together on days I worked.
-The way his smile lit up his whole body and still does!

Williamsburg, VA

For President's Day we took off and headed to Williamsburg.  Mark had Monday off as a federal holiday and he took a couple extra days to make it a 5 day weekend.  Awesome.  We had big plans to leave early Fri morning and spend the day in Richmond but between sleeping in and then having to do some laundry before we could leave we didn't end up leaving town until about 4.  Note to self: never try to leave DC area around 4pm especially on Fri of a holiday weekend!  Putting it mildly, we got stuck in traffic.  It took us 1 1/2 hours to go 13 miles.  But, after 5 hours of driving we finally made it to williamsburg.  To put this in perspective, the trip home only took us 1 hour and 50 min.  The drive was more than worth it though-we had an amazing weekend!  To top it off, our friend Lynne and her daughter Savannah came with us to add to the fun.

Saturday morning we drove over to Yorktown to see some of the colonial history of the area.  Williamsburg is pretty massive and kind of expensive to take two little kids to and Yorktown still has a lot to see, just on a smaller scale so it was perfect for what we needed.  Mason loved all the pictures and models of the boats, horses, and guns.  Dallan was just happy to go along for the ride, as always.

Outside of the Yorktown museum, they have a lot of hands on things to play with and a small farm with animals to feed and everything.  It's not really tourist season and we were basically the only people there so all the employees (dressed in colonial wear of course) were more than anxious for someone to give attention to.  One of the workers gave Mason some food for the animals and he was in heaven.  He was a little nervous about the turkey though considering it weighs as much as he does!  They had a campground set up and although their cannon is currently out of order the guy did let Mark pull the kids around with a handcart which the kids loved.

The resort gave us some coupons to a bounce house/blow up slide place so we decided to take the kids there to play.  It ended up being one of the highlights of the trip!  I'm not sure who enjoyed it more, the kids or us adults!

We also drove over to Newport News, VA to check out the Virginia's Living Museum.  It was pretty cool.  Kinda like a mix between a museum and a zoo.  They were doing a special on reptiles for February so we were "blessed" with extra snakes and such.  Mason loved the alligator and Dallan loved all the bright fish and coral in the aquariums.

They also had a display in plexi glass of honeybees and a cross section of their hive (bottom left pic of this last collage).  And what reptile exhibit would be complete without a 4-5 foot long iguana that kids could touch?

We did a lot of fun things but we also made sure to have plenty of down time too.  We went back to our condo each day and let the kids take a nap and then usually just did something small in the evenings like swimming in the resort pool or feeding  the geese and seagulls that were there at the resort.  Mason was a little fish trying to swim all over.  Even little Dallan liked the water but it was pretty cold water so I didn't want him staying in too long.

This was the first trip we have on since having kids and it was definitely different but so great!  In my opinion, a perfect balance of new and exciting and also relaxing.
